Chegini attended Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois in December of 1992, promoted to the rank of Boatswains Mate Chief Petty Officer in 2000, and commissioned as Deck LDO in 2003. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business, and a Master’s degree in Management.
At sea, Chegini has served on ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets with deployed operations in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea and Pacific areas of operation. His sea assignments include tours on USS Trenton (LPD 14) in support of Operation Continue Hope (Somalia), Operation Support Democracy (Haiti), Operation Assured Response (Liberia), TWA Flight 800 Salvage Operation (New York), Operation Joint Endeavor with NATO Stabilization and Implementation Forces (Bosnia), USS San Jacinto (CG 56) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq), USS WASP (LHD 1) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Sea Dragon (Horn of Africa), Plankowner USS NEW YORK (LPD 21), Deck, Trials, Craft and Corrosion Inspector at Board of Inspection and Survey executing 76 inspections, FDNF USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in support of Operation Damayan (Philippines), three CVN hull-swap/homeport shift, and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) in support of 10 months combat deployment during ship’s first voyage in seven years and subsequent homeport shift.
His assignments ashore include Recruiter in Charge at Navy Recruiting District Philadelphia; Port Operations Officer at Commander Fleet Activities Chinhea, South Korea; Naval Station Mayport, Florida; and Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan. He is currently serving as Commanding Officer of Transient Personnel Unit/Pre-Trial Confinement Facility Jacksonville, Florida.
His decorations include FY18 Navy and Marine Corps Association Leadership Award, Meritorious Service Medals (3), Navy Commendation Medals (7), Navy Achievement Medals (4), Battle “E” (7), and various campaign and unit awards.
