The Public Works Department supports NAS Whiting Field and tenant commands by efficiently and responsively managing station facilities and infrastructure. Services provided by the department include: infrastructure planning and programming, facilities management, construction, transportation management, environmental engineering, land resources management, energy/utility management, and military housing administration.
The department executes facility maintenance, construction, refuse collection, and custodial services through the award and administration of contracts with selected private-sector contractors. The largest of these is the Base Operating Services (BOS) contractor, which provides the majority of day-to-day base maintenance and various other facilities services.
The Public Works Officer, a Navy Civil Engineer Corps Officer, leads a staff of 33 civilians who provide engineering, technical, and management expertise. The Public Works Department main office is located in Bldg. 1416 at 7183 Langley Street.
