The Air Operations Department is responsible for providing Crash and Rescue services at NAS Whiting Field and its 12 outlying landing fields (OLFs) to support the critical aviation training mission conducted here. The AOD also provides air traffic controllers, ground electronics personnel, weapons personnel, and Fire Department personnel for one of the most active aviation complexes in the world. The AOD occupies several buildings. The Administrative Offices are located in building 1471, one Crash and Rescue Division is located in building 2983 onboard NAS Whiting Field, and one is located at Naval Outlying Field Barin in southern Alabama.
