The NAS Meridian Public Works Department (PWD) provides a wide variety of facility support services and functions. Public Works is responsible for facility management including maintenance, repair and alterations; planning and programming; real estate management; and engineering, design, and construction of facilities and utilities. Other Public Works functions include operation and maintenance of the water treatment plants and distribution systems; management of environmental protection and energy conservation programs; maintenance of the target at the bombing range; and pest control services.
The PWD Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division (FEAD) is responsible for all facility service contracts such as maintenance and construction contracts, custodial services, refuse collection and disposal, grounds maintenance services, and various other specialty services and contracts.
The PWD Environmental Division manages the Environmental Protection Programs, including soil, water and air conservation and protection; fish and wildlife programs; hazardous waste control; and recycling programs. Environmental ensures that the station is in compliance with all federal and state environmental protection laws and regulations by implementing mandated policies and programs. They also train and ensure that personnel are available for the emergency Spill Response Teams.
The PWD Transportation Branch manages the vehicular transportation fleet and services including operation and maintenance of both government owned and GSA leased vehicles and equipment. Transportation also maintains all weight handling equipment, emergency generators, and unpaved roads. They also train and license motor vehicle and equipment operators.
