Health Services During Evacuation

MEDICAL

In the event of a hurricane evacuation from Key West, and medical treatment is necessary, active duty members and their families who are enrolled in TRICARE Prime should follow the criteria below while traveling:

1.  In Preparation for Hurricane Season: If you suspect that you will need refills of your prescriptions during a possible evacuation, we highly recommend that you obtain the refills at the Branch Health Clinic pharmacy prior to the evacuation. Do not wait until the last minute to attempt a refill. Make sure you have a list of all your family medications and any allergies. In the event of sheltering and/or evacuation, bring all prescription medications in their original bottles.

2.  DEERS: Ensure you have a local address in DEERS. This will affect any coverage in the event a Waiver of PCM referral is issued. You can update your address at www.tricare.mil/deers or at the local TRICARE office.

3.  In the event of a hurricane evacuation from Key West, and medical treatment is necessary, active duty members and their families who are enrolled in TRICARE Prime should follow the instructions below:

Emergency Medical Care: Call 911 or go directly to the nearest civilian or military hospital emergency room.

Urgent Care: For non-emergent care, but a medical condition that cannot wait until you return to Key West: Contact the Nurse Advice Line at 1-800-TRICARE (847-2273) for triage advice. Then if advised to get help, contact Humana Military Health Services (TRICARE East) customer service line at 1-800-444-5445 to find the nearest network provider and verify authorization requirements. Visit the TRICARE website at www.humanamilitary.com anytime for general information. Be aware that the use of an urgent care facility or emergency room for routine care is not a covered benefit and you may be responsible to pay for services.

Pharmacy Services: If a network provider prescribes you medication, be sure to use a TRICARE network pharmacy. You can call Express Scripts at 1-877-363-1303 or access https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/ to locate the nearest network pharmacy. Be advised that co-payments will be charged for prescriptions from a network pharmacy for family members and retirees, and non-network pharmacies may charge the full amount.

Upon Return to Key West: Active duty personnel, family members, and other TRICARE Prime enrolled to the clinic: Contact the Naval Branch Health Clinic, Key West at 305-293-4834 if you have received medical care during evacuation. Retain any paperwork associated with your treatment. TRICARE Prime Beneficiaries not enrolled to the clinic should contact their Primary Care Manager (PCM).

4.  Non-TRICARE Prime patients should obtain medical care using the normal procedures as outlined for the TRICARE Select programs. For assistance, these members can contact Humana Military Health Services at 1-800-444-5445.
