CMDCM (SW) Carlos Gonzalez

CMDCM Carlos Gonzalez, a native of Delano, California, enlisted in the United States Navy in June 1998. Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois he reported to Naval Training Center, Great Lakes where he completed Damage Controlman ‘A” school. Upon graduation, he reported for duty as a Damage Controlman Fireman Apprentice to the USS Dubuque (LPD 8) in Sasebo, Japan. In July 28, 1999, he participated in the first ever U.S. Navy Hull Swap with the USS Juneau (LPD 10). After his first successful initial sea tour, now a Damage Controlman First Class Petty Officer, Gonzalez was selected to become an instructor for Damage Control “A” School in Great Lakes, Illinois. It was during this tour that Gonzalez earned his Master Training Specialist Designation and was selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer in 2005.

He reported to his first LCPO tour onboard USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) to Norfolk, Virginia in July of 2006 where he served as the Repair Division LCPO. Gonzalez returned to Sasebo in 2009 at ATG Det. Sasebo. He qualified DC team lead and earned his Afloat Training Specialist Designation. He also completed consecutive successful tours onboard the USS Denver (LPD 9), USS Ashland (LSD 48), and USS Patriot (MCM 7) all stationed in Sasebo, Japan. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2014 onboard USS Denver and achieved the rank of Command Master Chief onboard USS Patriot as his first CSEL tour.

In August of 2018, Gonzalez became the first Command Master Chief of Afloat Training Group, Western Pacific. In December of 2020, Gonzalez assumed his third CSEL tour as the USS BARRY (DDG 52) Command Master Chief. While onboard, he established the highest standards of excellence and produced exceptional results culminating in 2020 Battle Efficiency Award, Golden Anchor Retention Excellence Award, ASW Bloodhound Award, Unit Tactics, and SURFPAC FY20 Sailor of the Year. Gonzalez assumed his duties as Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Command Master Chief in August 2022. 

Gonzalez is a distinguished graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 188, and a graduate of the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center class 164. He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare designation onboard the USS Juneau (LPD 10) in 2000. His decorations include Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Commendation Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5), and various unit and campaign awards.
