The Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans environmental department is renewing its efforts to recycle waste items that can be remade into usable products. The recycling effort is part of the continuing plan to help keep NAS JRB "green."
The base recycling center is located in Building 55 behind the supply warehouse. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday 0730-1600. During those times, the center collects the following recyclables: corrugated cardboard; aluminum cans; #1 and #2 plastic containers with bottle necks (such as soda bottles or milk jugs); copy paper either sheet or shredded; newspapers and magazines (including phone books and unclassified manuals); lead acid batteries; tires; shrink wrap from deliveries; fluorescent light bulbs; and scrap metal (remove all fluids from any type of machinery).
Commands and facilities which produce large amounts of these products can contact us and arrange for a collection container to be placed in a convenient location. Bulk pick ups can then be arranged by calling extension 678-3126 or 678-3856.
The recycling center will accept recyclable materials from anyone willing to bring them in. We do ask that materials are bagged so they do not become a problem due to high winds. Recycling is a DoD requirement, beyond that it is a way for everyone to make a difference.
The recycling center is operated five days a week and the phone numbers are 678-3126 or 678-3856.
