Captain Brian A. Binder

Captain Brian A. Binder is a native of Bordentown, New Jersey.  He graduated with honors from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He earned his Executive Masters in Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California.  He was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2000.
 
His operational assignments include three tours with Helicopter Maritime Strike 72 (HSM-72) out of Jacksonville, Florida; and one tour with Helicopter Maritime Strike 37 (HSM-37) out of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.  His first deployment was aboard USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) in support of the John F Kennedy Battle Group during Operation Enduring Freedom.  Captain Binder subsequently deployed to the SOUTHCOM Area Of Responsibility aboard the USS STEPHEN W. GROVES (FFG 29) in support of Counter-Illicit Trafficking (CIT) efforts, as Officer-in-Charge of Detachment ONE aboard USS PINCKNEY (DDG 91) in support of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), and as Detachment TEN Officer-in-Charge aboard USS KLAKRING (FFG 42) in support of Southern Seas 2010.
 
In 2011, Captain Binder was assigned to the White House Drug Policy Office in Washington, DC where he earned his Joint Credit while serving as the European, African, and United Nations Policy Analyst, and coordinated interagency development of the 2012, 2013, and 2014 National Drug Control Strategies.  Captain Binder subsequently screened for Operational Aviation Command and reported to the “Proud Warriors” of HSM-72 in 2015.  He deployed twice with the Harry S. Truman Strike Group as both the Executive and Commanding Officer for two separate Air Wings, CVW-7 and CVW-1.
 
In 2018, Captain Binder was assigned to OPNAV N98 in Washington, DC as the MH-60R Requirements Officer.  In March 2020, Captain Binder became the Rotary Aircraft Branch Head for N98.  His next duty assignment will be serving as the Commanding Officer of Naval Station Mayport, Florida.  Captain Binder has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours in multiple aircraft.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal - Individual Action, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations.
