Commander Jeremy B. Doughty is a native of Bath, Maine, and graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2001, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Maritime Operations and Technology.  He was commissioned as an Ensign in September 2001.  Following flight training at Training Squadron TWO (VT-2) and Helicopter Training Squadron EIGHT (HT-8), both at Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, Florida, he was designated as a Naval Aviator in October 2003. He was then assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron TEN (HS-10), San Diego, CA, to attend initial training in the SH-60F/HH-60H Seahawk Helicopter.

Doughty’s initial fleet assignment was Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FIVE (HS-5) in Jacksonville, FL.  During his time with the “Nightdippers,” he deployed with Carrier Air Wing Seven (CVW-7) aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) and served as first lieutenant, aircrew division officer, schedules officer, aircraft division officer, and quality assurance officer.  Following his first sea tour, he was assigned to Helicopter Training Squadron Eighteen (HT-18), Milton, Fla., as an advanced helicopter training instructor specializing in night vision device (NVD) training. He also earned a Master of Science Degree in Entrepreneurship from the University of Florida.

Returning to sea duty in 2010, Doughty served as the safety officer on USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), Norfolk, Virginia, where he qualified as officer of the deck, combat information center watch officer, command duty officer, and helped LDH 3 win the 2013 Secretary of the Navy Safety Excellence Award.

Following his disassociated sea tour, Doughty was selected to be a department head with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Five (HS-5), Norfolk, VA. He completed a six-month temporary duty with Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Three (HSC-3) in San Diego, California for refresher training before rejoining the “Nightdippers” on their deployment with USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).  Doughty was then selected to be the transition officer as HS-5 transitioned to HSC-5 and changed platforms from the SH-60F/HH-60H to the MH-60S helicopter.  During his time with HSC-5, Doughty served in numerous department head positions including administration, safety, training, operations, and maintenance.

Doughty then completed a joint tour as branch chief and strategic planner in the Plans and Policy Directorate (J5) at U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, Neb. He was then selected to serve as the executive officer, Naval Air Facility El Centro, Calif.
