Capt. Jedediah Magda enlisted in the Navy in 1996. After completing basic training, Magda attended Electronics Technician (ET) 'A' School at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Orlando, Fla. He was then selected to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., graduating in May 2001 with a bachelor's degree in computer science. Following his commissioning, he attended the Surface Warfare Officer's School Division Officers Course in Newport, R.I. In February 2002, he reported to the USS McFaul (DDG-74) as the first lieutenant and completed multiple deployments in support of Operation Noble Eagle. While assigned to the McFaul, he qualified as officer of the deck and earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation.
Magda was selected for flight training in February 2003. He completed basic flight training in Milton, Fla., and advanced multi-engine training in Corpus Christi, Texas. After earning his wings in February 2005, he completed multiple deployments to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility (CENTCOM AOR) with VP-26 and VPU-1. Following his sea tours, Magda was assigned to VP-30 in March 2011 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor pilot. While assigned to VP-30, he completed an individual augmentation (IA) tour with the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance - Demonstrator (BAMS-D) program. Upon returning to VP-30, he attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructors (WTI) Course and graduated with class 12-02. After completing the WTI course, he served as the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Weapons School Fleet Training Department head. During his shore tour, Magda earned a master's degree in project management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Magda was selected as an aerospace engineering duty officer (AEDO) in December 2012. In September 2013, he reported to PMA-209, Common Avionics Program Office, where he served as communication, navigation, surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) deputy integrated product team lead (DIPTL). Following his tour in PMA-201, Magda served in PMA-274 as the VH-92A military class desk, where he earned a master's degree in systems engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. After serving as the VH-92A class desk, Magda reported to PMA-290 as the distributed maritime operations IPTL. In August 2021, he reported to PMA-201 as the Effects Deployment Office (FXDO) class desk. In August 2022, Magda assumed duties as the director of the FXDO. On May 15, 2025, Magda became the executive officer (XO) of the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division (NAWCTSD) and Naval Support Activity (NSA) Orlando, Fla., where he currently serves.
Magda has more than 2,300 pilot hours in a propeller aircraft. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign and unit awards.
