Captain Christopher G. Bohner

Captain Bohner is a native of Trevorton, Pennsylvania, graduated from Line Mountain High School in 1991 and enlisted into the United States Navy as a Nuclear Electricians Mate.  He attended North Carolina State University (NCSU) through the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program (NECP) where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and was later commissioned after attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Pensacola, Florida.  Bohner holds Master degrees in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), and National Security Strategy from the U.S. Air War College.

His sea tours included service aboard both attack and ballistic missile submarines, including division officer and later returning as navigator of USS Hartford (SSN 768), engineer of USS Albuquerque (SSN 706), engineer of USS Jacksonville (SSN 699), and executive officer of USS Alaska (SSBN 732)(GOLD).  He commanded the USS Tennessee (SSBN 734)(GOLD) in Kings Bay, Georgia from April 2014 to March 2017 through five strategic deterrent patrols.

Ashore, he served among various staffs within the Submarine Force to include Squadron Engineer (N4) of Submarine Squadron THREE, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations (N3), Training (N7), and Nuclear Matters (N9) of Submarine Group TEN, and Senior Deputy Commander for Training (D4T) of Submarine Squadron TWENTY.  Most recently he served as the Director for Strategic Operations, Nuclear Weapons, and Force Protection (N9) of Submarine Force Atlantic, the Deputy Chief of Staff of Task Group 114.4 for Atlantic SSBN operations, and the Director for Strategic Exercises, Training, and Assessment (J7) of U.S. Strategic Command Joint Forces Maritime Component Commander.

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medals as well as various unit and campaign level awards.  He was honored to have served among four crews that earned the Battle Efficiency “E” Award for their outstanding warfighting readiness.
