Commander Michael Missler

Commander Missler received his commission from the United States Naval Academy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics in May 2003. Following completion of Aviation Preflight Indoctrination in Pensacola, Florida, he was assigned to primary flight training with the 8th Flying Training Squadron, Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma. He was selected for the Hawkeye-Greyhound (E-2/C-2) community and completed Intermediate flight training at Training Squadron (VT) 31, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Advanced Flight Training with VT-21 in Kingsville, Texas. Missler received his Wings of Gold in February 2006 and reported to Airborne Command and Control Squadron (VAW) 120 in Norfolk, Virginia for initial training in the E-2C Hawkeye.

At Sea, he served with the “Golden Hawks” of VAW-112 based in Point Mugu, California from 2007 to 2010. He deployed twice aboard the USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74) to include U.S. 5th Fleet in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, and to the Western Pacific in support of U.S. 7th Fleet Operations. During his time with the Golden Hawks, Missler served as the Pilot Training Officer, Landing Signals Officer, Aviation Safety Officer, and Aircraft Division Officer. From 2010 to 2011, he was assigned to the U.S. Central Command’s Combined Air and Space Operations Center, where he worked as the Senior Offensive Duty Officer and Dynamic Targeting Chief in support of Operations NEW DAWN, ENDURING FREEDOM, and Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa. Commander Missler reported in October 2020 as executive officer of Airborne Command & Control and Logistics Wing (ACCLOGWING) Squadron Augment Unit (SAU), Norfolk, Virginia. He served as commanding officer of ACCLOGWING SAU from January 2022 to January 2024.

His shore tours include instructor duty with VT-9, Naval Air Station (NAS) Meridian flying the T-45 “Goshawk” from 2010 through 2013. He was selected as a Training and Administration of the Reserves Officer as a Chief of Naval Air Training Instructor Pilot and in 2013 Missler reported to his Department Head tour with VT-21, NAS Kingsville, Texas where he continued to instruct in the T-45. During this tour, he served as the Operations Officer, Training Officer, Aircraft Carrier Detachment Officer, and Reserve Department Head. In 2017 he transitioned to the Navy Reserves and continued to support VT-21 in the Squadron Augment Unit through 2022.

Following his command tour with ACCLOGWING SAU, he received an indefinite recall to active duty in June 2024 and currently serves as the executive officer of Naval Air Station Meridian.

Commander Missler has accumulated more than 4,300 flight hours in various military aircraft and 243 carrier arrested landings. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight), Joint Forces Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various unit and service awards.
