Capt. Philip Gesaman enlisted into the Navy and completed Basic Training at RTC, Great Lakes in 1989. He was promoted to the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Chief Petty Officer in September 2000 and was commissioned as a Deck Limited Duty Officer (LDO) in October 2001. Since his initial enlistment and commissioning, he has held a variety of sea and shore assignments.
His enlisted sea tours include USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69), USS CONOLLY (DD 979), and forward deployed assignments to Yokosuka, Japan on-board USS CHANCELLORSVILLE (CG 62) and USS VINCENNES (CG 49). His officer assignments include USS RAINIER (AOE 7) where he qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer and served as Replenishment At-Sea Equipment (RASE) Division Officer, BEACHMASTER UNIT ONE where he served as Officer In-charge (OIC) of Beach Party Team ALFA, and USS DUBUQUE (LPD 8) assigned as the First Lieutenant. He served two additional Department Head at-sea tours as First Lieutenant on-board USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) and USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). During these tours, he made multiple deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, Western/Eastern Pacific, and the Arabian Gulf.
Previous shore assignments include NRD INDIANAPOLIS as an Enlisted Recruiter, Surface Targets Officer at PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY-PMRF, Technical Training Director and Learning Standards Officer at RTC GREAT LAKES, Operations Officer of ASSAULT CRAFT UNIT FIVE, and as Deck Director/Senior Inspector at the Board of Inspection and Survey-INSURV.
Currently, he is assigned as the Executive Officer of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
CAPT Gesaman has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Sciences from American Military University. His personal awards include: Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), as well as numerous campaign and service awards.
